Visiting Ghana

Come and visit Ghana! The Ghanaians are friendly and welcoming. There is so much to do and see. As a visitor you will quickly feel at home. However, we at Dreamland Expeditions want to point out that before arriving there are a few essential you will need to attend to.

A visa is needed for Ghana.

Visas must be attained prior to arrival and are required by all excpet nationals of Benin, Burkino Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senega, Sierra Leone, Togo and Zimbabwe. You cannot get a visa or entry permit on arrival at the border or the airport. Visas can be extended once in the country. It would be good to contact the Ghanaian embassy in your area to find out the latest requirements. It can take over a month to receive a visa so give yourself plenty of time.

Check for necessary vaccinations a couple months prior to your visit to Ghana.

Also, you will need a Yellow Fever Vaccination and remember to bring your Health Certificate because this will be checked at Customs. You are also advised to consult with a travel clinic well in advance so that you may begin the usual anti-malaria treatment. Check also that all your other vaccinations are current.

Ghana's currency is the Cedi.

The official currency is the Cedi. It is a good idea to bring a mix of american dollars, ATM Cards and a Visa with a pin munber. Banks are not available everywhere in the country and you might not be able to arrive at the bank in time for business hours so it would be a good idea to bring an ATM Card and a Visa Card with a pin number so you can use the ATM machines. Also, in a pinch, American dollars will be accepted by some businesses, like taxis, merchants and hotels.

Travelling in Ghana is an adventure.

Travelling in Ghana is an amazing adventure. Dreamland Expeditions can help make it run smoothly so you are not simply dashing from one place to the next. Let Dreamland Expeditons worry about the details while you take in all the sights. A hint, when traveling very long distances in Ghana it is a good idea to travel in an air conditioned car with good shock absorbtion because the roads can be so bad and the dust chokes everything. Dreamland Expeditions can take care of this for you.

.....however, there is only a certain amount of preparation that you can do. The thing to keep in mind about traveling in Ghana is; this is not your typical 'tourist' destination. This is both the good news and the bad news about traveling in Ghana! If you stay flexible and open-hearted and adjust to 'ghana-time' for sure the hardest thing you will have to do while in Ghana is to leave and go home....!
