Ghana In View Expedition 2012 is a fourteen days country tour across seven of the ten Regions in Ghana to experience Ghana's real ecological and cultural treasures. Ghana was called the Gold Coast when an abundant amount of gold and other mineral resources were discovered. Beside Ghana's mineral resources, the country also has a diverse history, culture and ecological treasures to offer Ghanaians and the world at large to explore. Many tourists miss the beautiful sights and attractions of Ghana's countryside by restricting their visit to urban areas. Dreamland Expedition would like to open up Ghana for you. New experience and fond memories await you as you join us in exploring Ghana.

Itinerary:

Day 1 Friday 29th June

A comfortable tour bus waits your arrival to convey you from Kotoka International Airport to Crystal Palm hotel in Accra, the capital city of Ghana and Greater Accra Region, for refreshments and rest after the long flight to Ghana.

Day 2 Saturday 30th June

An orientation talk of the fourteen days expedition will take place after breakfast at the Crystal Palm hotel. Following the talk we will drive to the University of Ghana Legon, School of performing Arts, where a lecture on Ghanaian Arts and culture will be presented to the group. Afterwards we will break for lunch and return for a live indigenous Ghanaian traditional music performance by the School of performing Arts. The expedition continues with a drive through the Capital city and back to Crystal Palm hotel for refreshments and dinner. There will be a drive in the evening to relax at Frankie's

Day 3 Sunday 1st July

This day will start with an early breakfast and then we travel to Kakum National Park in the Central Region of Ghana, an International Biosphere hot spot and habitat for wildlife. The group will be taken for a walk through Kakum rain forest to study various kinds of plants and trees as well experience the walk across the 333 meters long bridges of Africa's number one canopy walkway enjoying lovely views of the forest canopy far below. The expedition continues to Cape Coast Castle with a stop at Hans Cottage for cold drinks and snacks while enjoying watching live crocodiles and various kinds of birds. (www.hansbotel.com)

At Cape Coast Castle, the group will be embark on a guided walk in the large slave castle and will be briefed about colonialism and slavery in Ghana and Africa. There will also be a visit to Elmina Castle and a fishing port to see local fishing activities and then we will relax at Coconut Grove beach resorts for the rest of the day. Day 4 Monday 2nd July

Departure will be after an early breakfast tovisit Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti Region through Obuasi, one of Ghana's major mining communities with a visit to Abonu to enjoy excellent views of the meteorite impact circular crater sacred Lake Bosomtwi, the largest of its kind in West Africa with wonderful green walls of hills and mountain vegetation surrounding the Lake.

Lunch will be at Lake Bosomtwi paradise resorts while enjoying lovely view of the sacred lake (www.lakebosomtweparadiseresort.com) There will be a short walk by the Lake after lunch with a brief history of thelife of the people of Abonu living by the Lake while the tour bus await to continue the day's expedition to the following places in Kumasi, Okomfo Anokye Hospital to learn about the unmovable historic sword driven into the ground by Okomfo Anokye, an ancient Ghanaian hero. We will also visit the Kumasi cultural center and drive pass Kejetia market, the largest everyday market place in Ashanti to Manhyia-Ashanti king's palace where the group will visit the palace museum holding the legacy of Ashanti Kingdom (www.ashanti.com.au)

There will be a visit to Bonwire, a famous hand cloth weaving community, to see various designs of Ghana's National Kente cloth, woven on indigenous hand looms. There will also be a stop at Ntonso, a local textile printing community to see local printings with Ghanaian traditional Adinkra symbols. The prints include cloths made for funerals and various occasions.

Day 5 Tuesday 3rd July

There will be an early departure after a quick breakfast to Mole National Park in the Northern Region, Ghana's most famous game reserve with a brief stop at Kintampo waterfall and lunch at Kintampo (ghana-net.com/kintampo_waterfalls.aspx)

Dinner and lodging will be at Mole National Park Hotel.

Day 6 Wednesday 4th July

The group will stay in Mole National park and be guided on a safari walk in the huge savanna forest to see various kinds of animals and birds. There will also be a visit to Larabanga to see one of the oldest mosques in Ghana with ancient architectural design. (www.touringghana.com)

Day 7 Thursday 5th July

The day travel will start preferably before sunrise after an early breakfast to travel to Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region where the group will visit Tano Boase sacred grove and be taken on a walking tour through the huge Tano sacred grove to see a wonderful vast Tano rock formations. Day 8 Friday 6th July

This day also begins with early breakfast and then we travel to Ghana's largest Aburi botanical gardens in the Eastern Region with a stop at Kumasi Krofro known for the local brass works. (www.ghana-net.com/aburi_botanical_gardens.aspx)

Lunch will be at Four Villages Inn (www.fourvillagesinn.com) Dinner and lodging will be at Aburi Botanical Gardens hotel.

Day 9 Saturday 7th July

There will be an early morning walk in the large historic Botanical Gardens to see various kinds of huge indigenous and exotic trees, plants, flowers, birds and butterflies, before departing to travel through Akuapem Mountains to Ho in the Volta Region. The group will visit Cedi Beads on the way, a local bead making factory at Krobo Odumase, to see local beads made in Ghana. Google lonely planet Ghana cedi beads)

The expedition will continue through Akosombo to see the World's largest man-made Lake Volta/Akosombo Dam. Lunch will be at Akosombo continental hotel lake front resorts. (www.ghanaguesthouses.com) Dinner and lodging will be at Chances hotel Ho (www.chanceshotel.com)

Day 10 Sunday 8th July

While in the Volta Region, the group will depart early after breakfast for Wli Agumatsa Waterfall with a stop at Tafi Atome Village/Monkey Sanctuary. At Tafi Atome, the group will be hike through the lush Tafi Atome forest to see various colonies of Mona monkeys' co- existing with the people of Tafi Atome village. These sacred monkeys are very friendly and enjoy invitations for good photos with bananas provided by the local guides. The group will be briefed about the historic co-existence of the monkeys and the people of Tafi Atome village. (www.touringghana.com)

The expedition continue to Hohoe Atabu to visit a traditional bone healer who has used traditional means to heal many serious bone fracture cases and then we drive to Wli Agumatsa Waterfall, the highest waterfall in West Africa and the second highest in Africa. The group will be guided through the pleasant Agumatsa rain forest with excellent views of mountain ranges, green vegetation of plants and various kinds of trees. Although waterfalls around the world are rated according to how high, wide and beautiful they can be, here you may like to take a dip or swim to refresh in the lovely pool at the foot of Agumatsa waterfall, or cavort through the pounding waterfall to touch the wall behind the fall as you enjoy beautiful rainbows circling in the pool, especially on sunny days (www.touringghana.com)

We will stop en-route back to Ho for shopping at the Gbi Kledzo Special needs school souvenir shop where beautiful handicraft souvenirs are made by special needs (disabled) children.

Day 11 Monday 9th July

The group will travel to the highest human settlement in Ghana Amedzofe and be treated to a guided walk up the peak of Ghana's second highest mountain Gemi to enjoy the scenery and beautiful landscape including mountains, neighboring towns and villages. (www.touringghana.com)

We will return to Ho for lunch at Gold Finger restaurant and pay a visit to Vegus batik, tie and die enterprise to observe the demonstration of making the most affordable fabric made in Ghana. The group will also visit the Volta Regional museum. (www.capecoastcastlemuseum.com)

Day 12 Tuesday 10th July

The group will be engage after breakfast by the Volta Regional theater group giving bare hands and sticks Ghanaian traditional drumming and dancing lessons . The group will be taken through a variety of indigenous traditional rhythms which the Volta Region is best noted for including Borborbor and Agbadza. Volta Region is best known in Ghana for its numerous indigenous rhythms and music styles enjoyed by the indigenous Ewe tribe spreading along the West Africa coast and elsewhere.

There will also be a visit to observe the weaving process of Ghana's proud kente cloth at Agortime Kpetoe which is believed to be the true origin of Ghana's kente clothe with the explanation of how the name kente in ewe language came about.

We will return to join an open live community indigenous traditional Borborbor music and dance performance by a community traditional group at Ho.

Day 13 Wednesday 11th July

Today's expeditions will take the group to enjoy the Volta river front at Manet Paradise and visit the ocean beach at Ada including the Volta estuary where the largest river in Ghana runs into the Atlantic Ocean and then return to Accra.

Day 14 Thursday 12th July

There will be a short evaluation by the group about the expedition after breakfast at Crystal Palm hotel and the group will start preparing to check out and drive to visit the National museum, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Accra cultural center where handicrafts souvenirs from Ghana and other parts of Africa are exhibited for sale and drive to relax at La-pleasure beach resorts before driving to catch your plane. Lunch will be at Frankie's restaurant.
